GOREGA

A multimedia Installation featuring an imaginary being based on the human-held belief, or sense of feeling, that an underlying force pushes forward a cycle of life and death. Whether this cycle is represented through myths where a being acts as a custodian of this activity or whether it is represented through the tangible and visible process of decomposition from which new life springs, Gorega encompasses this essence.

Installation created for Kunst am katzengraben exhibition 2025

Each character of the installation represented a part of a cyclical part of nature- that of death and rebirth. From guardians of the underworld to psychopomps who help souls pass into the unknown, to the souls themselves depicted as helpless paper dolls, and the keeper of the underworld herself- gorega.

An Infinitely repeating cycle

Souls float into another realm, new creatures and faces guide them and channel them back into a repeating cycle.

Psychopomps and Guardians

Why a forked tongue?

We automatically associate forked tongues with something animalistic, reptilian, and raw.

It adds to the illusion that the creature is something other than human, representing something existing within more primal parameters- something driven by instinct rather than emotions. But because the creature has a human face, we connect to it and recognize it as one of our own...
